Similar to hockey tape, grippy, and smooth. The width makes it easier to wrap handle with unique contours.

MMMMMM Monkey tape Some o-rings,and a double wrap'o Monkey tape, just what the doctor ordered for my MDV's. Greatly improved feel in hand!! Half roll leftover....enuff for the D2 dagger my brother "FINK" give me for Christmas, and perhaps some for the Deep 6 in my Karambit crew 😀
Great product does exactly what it needs to and better than other options for tape its size allows you to customize your grip to you.

This stuff is great. I’ve used different types of tape to do what this is made for. Like using duct tape to make a ridge, then covering it with electrical tape, for a sort of tacky feel. A “true” tacky feel that monkey tape is made to not only have/do, but to have that tackiness without smearing the tape’s adherence all over you or your gear/hands. This type of tape is also used in jujitsu practice/matches. That’s how good it is. I would imagine at some point I will need to take it off and reapply. But now I’m looking at my stuff, as to what else I can put monkey tape on…lol. …no seriously.
This stuff is great. I have been known to try to make gripping segments on things. But this tape makes a great gripping application. It seems to almost be tacky, and I don’t see or feel anything wiping off. My only problem with this tape is, I don’t have enough….lol
It’s ok grip tape. Very similar to hockey tape. Wears out just the same. It’s over priced in my opinion. I think I’ll just stick with the regular hockey tape.
Monkey tape is the perfect compliment for the MDV and MDV trainer.

Tape makes all the difference it’s an awesome knife but when you tape it it is like adding a handle feels good in the had and grips nice.
I was incredibly skeptical at the idea of paying a premium for what’s essentially hockey tape cut to a 1/16” width, but once you actually see it in front of you, it’s hard to conceptualize. Being so narrow, it’s incredibly useful for a tight and high-tact grip on a knife. I am very impressed with this product, simply because it’s simple and very cleanly cut/manufactured. Highly recommend if you’re using a Black Triangle G10
Used it on my 9mm and all the mags. Great grip, not sticky.

I really like that they offer the 1/8 thick size.
Tape is good quality and is wearing well so far. It wraps nice and tight and there is no sticky adhesive residue oozing out. The texture of the tape is very smooth and It works well for pocket carry but is a little to slick for me when using the belt loop/ handel tuck method of carry. I will probably try a grippier silicone type tape after I run out of the monkey tape or maybe just a dab or two of liquid electrical tape onto the monkey tape. It's all about experiment and make it your own.
What can I say another dam good blade from skallywag tactical. It's on me 24/7 sometimes I forget that I'm carrying it because it carries so well. 🤗🤗
A must have for your MDV+1 I used the original wrap method by MDV however I have smaller hands and found that through training and general manipulation of the MDV +1 I found I needed a different type of wrapping so I opted for the traditional Asian style, wrapping, and so far it works best for me.
So I bought the knife first then a few days later ordered the tape,and it improved the knife dramatically
The MDV carries well. It doesn't matter if you hook it behind your belt, put in in the pocket using the rhino sheath or if one decides to use the other sheath and attach it to the belt. I will be purchasing the trainer soon. For a fixed blade fighting knife it's become a favorite of my along with my Shivworks Clinchpick.
I'm not even sure how or where I stumbled across Skallywag Tactical. I am very glad I did!! My first order was fairly modest, mainly to support a veteran owned company. After receiving my order, which was all from the blemished menu. I was very happy with the quality of knives, so much so that I thinks I've made like 4 orders since .. there's something for everyone.. I've already given a few out for gifts and I will be purchasing more for future gifts and for personal, whether it's a pocket knife or an EDC , who knows, maybe that kitchen set will come home with me one day!! I really like how the monkey tape works when you are putting it on the MDV. I feel it really enhance my grip. Plus I have more that enough for my next purchase.
Adding the monkey tape to the MDV Plus One's gives you that little extra control needed during use and deployment. It stays in place in the hand reasonably well when using as support. I may wrap an additional node in the center for a little extra control.
The tape is a must! It allows you to make the knife really part of your hand! If you have ever done any grappling training you know how important good athletic tape is and the fact that this is already cut into a small strip makes it so easy to apply exactly how you want. Holds up great! I carry every day and train with it 3-4 times a week and only have to change it out once a week after Extreme use and wear and tear. Highly recommend! 10 out of 10!

Love this blade so much I bought a second one!! I do prefer the RHINO sheath (it literally has unlimited possibilities, I have used it with different size belts from 2½" work belt to 1¼ dress belt, secured with drawstring on sweats, & athletic shorts, on jeans (at waiste) without belt, throw in hoodie pocket, & with practice blade in gi pants, & spatz! When I thought it couldn't be more perfect I added the 🐒 monkey tape to live blades & trainers 🐒 the added grip in hand, along with concealed dexterity manipulation has been a joy to train with now 18 months later I write this review with thousands of drill reps "under the belt" & have nothing but positive things to say GET THE KNIFE, GET THE TRAINER, GET THE RHINO SHEATH, & GET THE MONKEY TAPE These additions to your EDC kit will with practice become your most carried 2nd option. Did I mention you can have a full grip shooting CQB & INSTANTLY put blade into action defensively or offensively? Practice,practice,practice the best plan is well thought out & practiced!!
Giving your blade the ability to have a perfect grip tailored to your hand in the most minimalistic fashion. Makes the world of difference with blade manipulations as well
i used it to wrap my cold steel spike it gave a way better grip than the cord i used the rest on the aluminum dagger to give it a better grip thanks for the great product
I used monkey tape on both MDVs and like MIKE D says its a must for a more secure grip plus it makes the knives even look better and more tactical. As you can see in my photo I sharpened the red trainer on my WORKSHOP GUIDED STONE SHARPENER and it came up really nice and sharp. I could have made it better but as long as there is a sharp point on it thats all you need for what these knives are meant for. But overall great package with top tier materials and thought of mind in this.
