The MDV +1 is the (self defense)blade i've been looking for. I've seen the use of 'skeleton' daggers and knives training around and adapt that type of gear to my carry. The lower knife in the photo is on I reground from a 20$ ebay knife a few years ago when I had to stop using a karambit ring due to Dupytrens in my pinky. Th MDV +1 knife's two different grinds are similar to a Fox folding tracker that I carry for bushcrafting, and I suspect the MDV +1 will get some time in the woods working. I've spent more time handling the trainer getting used to it, and the only complaint I (actually my sparring partner) had with the trainer was sharp corners at the heel of the blade and in front of the thumb jimping. Easily rounded over. A big shout out to Govx and Skallywag for Vet discount.
The knife came to me with the tip of the blade bent to the left. It is off enough I can push my finger down on it with pressure and it won’t pierce it. The finish has a mark. And the scabbard came with the band broken out of the box. I emailed the company right away. If they make it right I am fine. Bad things get through quality control sometimes. Hoping they respond quickly.
Hair popping sharp from the box. Purchased to save my pockets. Current carry wave has destroyed my pockets. Plus I prefer a straight blade. Be ready. No need to get ready. Only negative I have is ranger band was cut on sheath. So far I like it. The sheath is absolutely functional. Experimenting with different carry styles. Highly recommended!!!!
I've owned 3 MDV's since their initial launch, it's my favorite fixed blade Skallywag has made, and as you can see I have several within my arsenal. The MDV is the most comfortable fit for EDC I've ever owned. It's so comfortable that I've given my previous two away to combat vets that really liked the way it felt in their hands. I owned the original, with the Delta Fox logo on the flat side that came with a red trainer, a black one with the 2nd Gen rhino sheath, and now my bounty gold, which I plan on holding on to this time. My daughter seems to like the feel of it too. So I plan on getting her a trainer, and heirloom the bounty gold to her some day. Skallywag Tactical has been my favorite knife brand since my first purchase of the Valhalla. And I've never been happy with any other knife I've purchased that wasn't a skallywag since then. The metal used is superior to any name brand out there. My first Privateer still has a decent edge even with a broken tip, but I have put that knife through some abuse when i worked in construction. There is no other brand of knife I would entust with my life quite like Skallywag Tactical, and I look forward to purchasing my next blade from here soon.
The blade is as advertised. It arrived very quickly and is well balanced when handling. I also got a trainer for it. Feels very solid and comfortable once the monkey tape is applied properly. Looking forward to using my trainer to learn the proper techniques. Good quality products overall.

Loves the blades! The new stone wash mdv has a nice and better heft than my previous black v1 version. I wish I had known they were gonna drop Navajo red! Would have picked that one up for sure!
Awesome concealment blade with good blade geometry. Handle is comfortable, but requires monkey/hockey tape for a form fitting grip.

Love this knife. Taped the handle like Michael Donvito showed and that makes a huge difference. I also bought the trainer to practice different draws and to practice on my BOB. I like it so much I have two - one with cord on the sheath to loop it on my belt loop for IWB carry and the other sheath bare. I especially like that I can hold the knife and grip my gun (I carry daily). I like the design so much I’ve also bought the folder and folder trainer. The folder is great, too, and the draw that opens the knife is slick.
The grind on the edge of the blade appears rough and unfinished. Sharpness of the edge leaves a lot to be desired. Additionally the sheath is made from ultra cheap plastic. After pulling the knife out and putting it back in roughly a dozen times the sheath is coming apart at the seams. I contacted customer service and as of now I have not gotten a reply.
Pros: The unique design is an absolute show stopper. The horned pommel let's it rest securely in the hand at any angle without being actively gripped. This allows you easily to keep it in your support hand while aiming a pistol or reloading magazines. This is an extremely niche application, and it fills this bill far more intuitively and comfortably than the SOCP dagger, its only serious competitor. The SOCP series (and its imitations), all use a closed retention ring around the pointer finger, which is really uncomfortable and awkward in the hand, and as a medic I've treated more than a couple young Rangers who broke their fingers in those retention rings just screwing around. Also, unlike the SOCP, the sheath is low profile and easily concealable out of the box. Speaking of the sheath, that little rhino horn on the end is another example of the impressive ingenuity that went into designing this thing. The monkey tape grip is an awesome way to let the user customize the grip to their hand. Never seen that before, and the more I get used to it, the more I'm unsure how I can ever go back standard grips. Cons: Its made from D2 tool steel, which is far cheaper and slightly more durable than most other options, but RIDICULOUSLY more difficult to sharpen by hand. Out of the box its edge is mediocre and if you take a whetstone to it, hours of frustration later, you'll be lucky if it isn't duller than when you started. This is honestly a shame, as it would also function perfectly as an EDC general purpose knife in addition to being a defensive tool if ST could have been bothered to shell out a few extra bucks for 5160, or 440. The false bevel on the back edge of the blade is the worst of both worlds. I'd prefer a true edge for pull cuts, even though there are legitimate reasons to keep the second edge short/skip it all together. However, if you're going to skip the second edge, just leave the back edge completely flat so it's easier to control when you bite up on it with your thumb. This makes it easier to grind down for those who want a second edge, and harder for your thumb to slip off. I'm guessing that the second edge is nixed because they were worried about it cutting the ranger bands that hold the sheath together on drawing, but if that's the case, then just redesign the sheath. (the sheath is the accessory, not the knife) The price. On ANY other design, $150 for D2 steel would lead me to inquire what substances the manufacturer is abusing. In this case I got mine for a $100 with a GOVX military discount, but if I hadn't found that deal, I never would have considered the purchase. Summary: A clumsily executed first attempt at a truly revolutionary design that resolved all the drawbacks of its predecessor without sacrificing passive retention. In 20 years owning one of these will be the knife equivalent of owning GEN1 NVG's. Now, if you all will excuse me, I have to start looking for a custom bladesmith who can clone this thing in a material that doesn't make me want to pull my fucking hair out whenever I sharpen it.
This is my third Mdv+1 fixed blade. Full stop, it is my favorite self defense/EDC fixed blade on the market. Three things that make this an excellent tool: 1) Design and ergonomics - the team has thought through each minute detail to make this an effective tool in hand. 2) Carry considerations - the Rhino sheath is fantastic, and almost as important as the blade is the ability to rapidly deploy it and carry it comfortably. 3) Training and information put out by Skallywag tactical - Mike has a number of videos that are exhaustive in detail on how to carry, deploy, customize and use this blade effectively.
Absolutely love this knife, it carries easily behind my belt. My only regret is not buying the trainer as well, the bladed knife is tearing the hello out of my Bob, lol.
Knife came chipped in 2 spots out the box which is extremely upsetting because the knife itself is amazing. Contacted support to see if I could get a replacement but no response yet hoping to change my review later
The gold finish is quite nice. Very uniform across the blade, looks great. The knife itself - what can I say? It is an MDV+1, so there are a bunch of way to carry, draw, and grip it. A very versatile “get off me” blade. Great quality, very sharp, and easy to maintain.
Very quickly became an everyday carry. I LOVE this knife.

It fits in my pocket easily and the rhino sheath in the belt loop behind the belt works, too. It easily fits my hand. I did the horizontal water bottle cut and it sailed (😁) right through. Twice since the first cut was a little high. Half full it still sliced through easily. Really sharp. I bought the trainer as well and am practicing with it. I really like this purpose built knife!
Awesome knife
I got it as a pair with the trainer. Dropped the trainer once. My son just wore my MDV to the beach and came back with just the sheath. About to order the replacement. I hope whoever finds it puts it to good use. The gunners mate and MDV are my favorite two knives.

Had to order another MDV….as mine was missing in action for over a week. Got it in sometime last week. Got extra tape snd bands and a Ulti-Clip Mini. Two days ago, I got home and did a pocket dump on my nightstand. The next morning, in sheer awe, I cannot find my MDV. My wife even joined me in my psychotic quest to find this SOB. We looked over 45 minutes. I even broke out a flashlight and detailed reversion to grids. Still nothing. Decided to take a shower, then I was adamant on ordering another and having it “next day” delivery. My wife, out of her closet….pulls them both out, and says are these the ones. I couldn’t tell the new from the old. So, either my wife is trying to make me lose my mind, or I have already achieved it myself. BTW— Scorpion Pro - Zombie Green—Super Cool Blade!!! Made a grip with friction tape. I have carried this knife behind my belt buckle since it arrived. I am waiting for the practice blade to be back in stock so I can really start to train with this amazing knife. This is exactly what I was looking for
The sheath that came with the MVD was very loose. Knife kept falling out of it and dulling the blade. I tried emailing you and received one response. After the mention of a replacement sheath all communication stopped. I have since made a claim through PayPal.
Have always been my main carry since I first got it, they need to make a stonewash version of it

Hello, not sure if I'm allowed to post this given it is not the MDv plus one but a good buddy of mine has one and I absolutely love it and the design. It made me rethink the belt and appendix carry and I've tried to come up with a way to implement this genius design in my cheap edc lol. I hope to be able to purchase one for myself soon and my buddy loves his. Anyway I appreciate the inspiration endlessly and wish you the best. Hope to be a customer soon, awesome products.
The MDV +1 is a fantastic EDC option that's lightweight and fun to use. It has excellent ergonomics and fits my hand like a glove. Watch Skallywag's videos on using the knife and the Rhino sheath; they helped me speed through the learning curve. EXCELLENT customer service as well.
No grip mods needed, the rhino sheath makes the knife. Did some sneaky old man shit and mounted to my wallet which holds it for pocket draw nicely.
